Manya Surve (mumbai's Don)

Manohar Arjun Surve (1944 – 11 January 1982), popularly known as Manya Surve, was an infamous Indian urban dacoit and gangster in the Mumbai underworld. His death in 1982 during an encounter with the Maharashtra police became known as the city's first recorded encounter killing. However, the spate of encounter killings only increased in the late 1980s and further rose after the 1993 Mumbai bombings; a total of 622 alleged criminals were killed in police encounters from 1982 to 2004.

Why Maharashtra must thank a watchful Bal Thackeray

Mumbai-Pune expressway ranks first among few notable achievements that the maiden Shiv Sena-BJP government had in its saffron kitty. Another signature performance was building 55 flyovers in the city under a watchful remote-control called Bal Thackeray.

Before coming to power in 1995, the Sena-BJP had innumerable promises in their manifesto – 'Vachannama'. Most of them didn't become reality in the four and a half years of rule but for the expressway which was Thackeray’s dream project.

Diwali

MOST OF US DON'T EVEN KNOW WHY DIWALI IS CELEBRATED IN INDIAN......    SO MAY BE THIS POST WILL HELP YOU.

Diwali dates back to ancient times in India, as a festival after the summer harvest in the Hindu calendar month of Karthikai. The festival is mentioned in Padma Purana, the Skanda Purana, and other Sanskrit Hindu scriptures; the divas (lamps) are mentioned in Skanda Purana to symbolically represent parts of sun, the cosmic giver of light and energy to all life, who seasonally transitions in the Hindu calendar month of Kartik.
